Since 1 January 2010 the Cleaning Award has covered national system employers (i.e. those employers that are a constitutional corporation. A constitutional corporation includes a foreign corporation, a trading corporation and a financial corporation).

Since 1 February 2011, the Cleaning Award has also covered employers that are sole traders; partnerships and other unincorporated entities in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

The Cleaning Award covers the contract cleaning services industry.

The contract cleaning services industry includes - cleaning (including event cleaning, trolly collection and hygiene and pollution control) and minor property maintenance which is incidental or peripheral to cleaning.

The only employers who are not covered by the Cleaning Award are those employers that are sole traders; partnerships and other unincorporated entities in Western Australia.
